Puanga Matariki ki Te Māra a Tāne

The rising of Puanga and Matariki signify the beginning of the Māori new year and the chance to connect with whānau, celebrate the year gone by, and set intentions for the year to come. Spending time in te taiao/nature is a great way to free your mind and give yourself space to reflect, on your own or with loved ones.

Conservation Kōrero - From Pines to Podocarps

Towering above in our ngahere/forest, the pines at Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne were originally planted as a forestry trial as early as the 1880s. When the sanctuary was established, some of the pines were not removed to prevent slips and as they were important habitat for many species in the upper canopy. However, as these aging trees are exotic and an increasing health and safety risk, we are beginning to remove them.
