Saving New Zealand's birds: Conservationists keep species from going extinct

by Adrian Brown, Al Jazeera

“Birdsong is no longer drowned out by traffic”, Al Jazeera English reports on the inspiring recovery of native manu/birds in Wellington.

Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne is proud to work alongside Predator Free New Zealand Trust and Predator Free Wellington trapping communities in this shared mission.

Thanks to these collective efforts, native bird populations in the capital have risen by over 40% in the past two decades, now outnumbering the introduced species.

This ongoing partnership demonstrates that reversing biodiversity decline isn’t just an aspiration—it’s achievable, even in urban environments.

Together, we’re proving that conservation can coexist with city life, creating thriving ecosystems for people and wildlife alike.
