Tanglewood House

You might have noticed the office building being constructed over the last few months on Waiapu Road. This is now all finished, and we are excited to announce Zealandia’s new building, Tanglewood House, is officially open. This building has been proudly supported by the Karori Sanctuary Trust, the Tanglewood Foundation, and Wellington City Council.

This beautiful building provides much needed workspace to support the Zealandia team of staff and volunteers. It also provides flexible working space that will promote research collaborations with Te Herenga Waka Victoria University and beyond.

The building has several sustainability features, such as motion sensor lights, water tanks, and we are trialling a gravel approach in our carpark that will reduce pollutant run off into the Kaiwharawhara. This building is fit for the future and will help us grow our impact as we transform how people live with nature.

The Tanglewood Foundation

Founded by philanthropist and conservation advocate Peter Eastwood, the Tanglewood Foundation provides funding for conservation and education projects around the world. They focus on wildlife conservation projects in Aotearoa New Zealand and South Africa and produce educational films and documentaries worldwide.

Peter has most recently been working on a new endeavour, Sashwa | River of Stars. This incredible retreat opens 8 November and is located in the Greater Kruger National Park on the banks of the mighty flowing Olifants “Elephants” River. For those of us who love birds, this would be a fantastic place to visit and be part of a unique social enterprise.
