Beyond Predator Free NZ

Beyond Predator Free NZ

A talk with Jim Lynch

Predator free NZ has made remarkable strides over the last several years and has enlivened the whole conservation debate with a renewed burst of energy, much needed research activity and an injection of new funding.  It is unquestionably a very good thing for conservation.

But is it really all that we should strive for or need to achieve for the future of conservation? Does it get to the heart of the matter when it comes to preserving our unique natural heritage?

This discussion will pose and try to answer some of the tough questions which surround the predator free movement and the quest to recover our natural heritage. It will look at what is needed for a complete and lasting solution to the seemingly intractable problems which beset biodiversity in New Zealand.

About the Author: Jim Lynch has worked actively in Wellington and National Conservation for the last 25 years with Community conservation groups and with Government Departments and Local Authorities. He is the author of the successful “Natural Wellington” concept and the founder of “Zealandia” Karori Sanctuary. In 2001 he received a Queens Service Medal (QSM) for services to conservation. He has two Wellington City Civic awards for services to conservation in Wellington.
