She began her career as a professional artist in 2009, specializing in Scratchboard and Pastel—two vastly different mediums that allow her to explore dramatic contrasts and intricate details in her depictions of birds and wildlife. Rarely without her camera, Karen draws inspiration from predator-free islands and bird sanctuaries, using photography as the foundation for her stunning, representational art. Karen’s work in Scratchboard involves etching through layers of black Indian ink to reveal a white clay base, creating striking monochromatic images with precision tools like scalpels and tattoo needles. Her passion for conservation drives her artistry, with a portion of proceeds from commissioned wildlife paintings donated to causes supporting animals and the environment. Recognized for her expertise, Karen is a Master Member (MSA) of the International Society for Scratchboard Artists, an organization leading a revival of this unique medium globally.
