Photography Exhibition Launch at ZEALANDIA

On Wednesday 3 February, join us for drinks and nibbles at the launch of ZEALANDIA's latest Stairwell Gallery exhibition.

“Wings: Rood pictures of birds” is a photography exhibition by Wellington photographer Danny Rood, presenting a superb selection of Aotearoa New Zealand’s native manu/birds. A selection of 10 of Danny’s photographs, captured with timing, skill and a bit of luck, tell the story. Not only of the birds in action, but an insight into the behaviour and characteristics that make them taonga to so many New Zealanders.

In a diverse lineup, the feature photos of this exhibition are the “Pollen-soaked tūī” and “Takahē shaker”, both photographed at ZEALANDIA. The tūī has boomed in Wellington in the last two decades, and is often seen furiously diving its beak into the pollen-rich harakeke plants. The once thought-to-be-extinct takahē, before its re-discovery in Fiordland’s Murchison Mountains in 1948, are flightless. Despite this, their colorful presence and round bodies make them a popular character amongst the Aotearoa native bird lineup.

Join us at 5:30pm on the first floor of ZEALANDIA's Visitor Centre to meet the photographer and admire New Zealand's unique bird species.
