Event date: 1/06/2019 - 30/06/2019 Export event Natalie Beeby Exhibition Throughout June, the ZEALANDIA Store will host an exhibition by jewellery artist Natalie Beeby! ARTIST BIO Natalie Beeby is a Wellington contemporary jeweller and interior designer. Her current work encapsulates the essence of Wellington’s native forests as miniature worlds, likening them to wearable terrariums, or little tree treasures. Beeby’s processes involved sketching four of the predominant tree types found in the Wellington regional forests: Mamaku, Rewarewa, Rimu and Tōtara, and then translating these sketches into three-dimensional forms through hand carving in wax. Representative forms of each tree type were hand carved in wax in multiple stages of growth, from saplings to ancient forest giants. These wax forms were cast into sterling silver or 9ct yellow gold and then composed in and around sterling silver geometric forms. Beeby enjoys the contrast of the highly geometric encapsulating forms with the natural treescapes. This juxtaposition of geometric and organic is an idea that she has worked with in the past and enjoys exploring. Beeby gained a diploma in Jewellery Design from Whitireia Community Polytechnic in 2005 and a Bachelor of Design majoring in Interior with first class honours from Victoria University of Wellington in 2002. She has taken time away from making contemporary jewellery over the last 7 years to focus on raising her three young children, and now returns to the field with this collection.
