ZEALANDIA’s Rāngai Rangatahi / Youth Collective is a diverse group of young people aged 15-18 who are passionate about the environment with a goal to make change.

The Rāngai/Collective’s values are:
compassion, acceptance, trust, manaakitanga, inclusiveness, respect, community, rangimarie, kaitiakitanga, hard work.

We come together to:

  • - create opportunities for others to get a personal experience, while instilling our values in others.
  • - create change through social and environmental actions.

The Rāngai Rangatahi formed in October 2020, with the start-up project in the term three school break. Over four days the Rāngai/Collective took part in a range of behind-the-scenes experiences, including sampling eDNA from Kawau lake, learning about tuatara with the Conservation team and creating colour responses to taiao/nature with a Designer. Together the Rāngai/Collective created the new visual identity for and wrote the collective kaupapa/purpose, which you can see above.

The Rāngai/Collective will be working on new projects in 2021 and we’d love to hear from more people aged 15-18 who’d like to get involved. Applications will open soon. If you enjoy working with new people, are open to learning new things and love getting stuck in then you are perfect for the Rāngai / Collective. It’s a great chance to make new friends and create positive change, while developing skills and knowledge that could help with your CV and provide inspiration for future training or jobs pathways. You don’t need any previous knowledge of conservation to take part.
