General Admission

Self-guide around the sanctuary! Take a map and walk some of the 32 kilometres of trails where wildlife roam free. Spend anywhere from one hour to the whole day exploring. Buy your tickets at the door or book in advance here.

 

Private Tour

Ideal for groups and those wanting an exclusive and private tour. Flexible and available during the day or night, enjoy all the sights and sounds of ZEALANDIA with an expert guide who will lead you through the picturesque sanctuary while catering to your individual requirements.

Kids Birthday Parties

***Currently unavailable*** Adventure awaits! Treat your tamariki to a Zealandia birthday party this year and celebrate in nature. Step into a world of discovery, exploration, and adventure with your friends in the sanctuary. Spot native New Zealand wildlife and discover the tracks and trails as you walk through the sanctuary, guided by one of our friendly birthday party guides. Hari huritau ki a koe!

Getting Here

Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne is just a stone's throw from the Wellington CBD, so getting here is easy!

We have limited free parking available at the Zealandia Visitor Centre. Please note there is no parking available for large campervans here. If your vehicle doesnt fit into a standard carpark please park in our overflow carpark or on Chaytor Street. 

The overflow carpark is located 500m away on Birdwood Road.

 

Free Shuttle

 

Our electric shuttles pick up & drop off Zealandia visitors FREE from outside the city i-SITE and top of the Cable Car.

Public Bus

 

Many of Wellington's public buses will stop at the end of Waiapu Road (stop 4320), on Chaytor Street (stop 5320) and just around the corner on Birdwood Street (stop 5380). These are about a five minute walk from the sanctuary.

Cable Car

 

You can take the Wellington Cable car from Lambton Quay to the top of the Botanic Gardens. From there it's approx a 30 minute walk to Zealandia (allow at least 30mins), or hop on our free shuttle.

Electric Vehicles

 

Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne has several Electric Vehicle charging stations (Type 1 CCS stations and Type 2 CCS stations) available for public use. These will charge the average EV around twice as quickly as a regular household charger.

We also have an eBike charging station which visitors are welcome to use. eBikes make riding to the sanctuary easy and fun as you get a little help up some of Wellington’s famous hills! Don't have an eBike? You can hire one from Switched On Bikes and get the cost of your sanctuary admission refunded when you return it!*

*Applicable on hirage for full day or longer only. Customers will need to present Zealandia receipt to be eligible for refund. Refund applies for Zealandia day admission only.

 

 

INFORMATION FOR PRIVATE COACHES

 

The Zealandia carpark is available for bus/coach drop-off and pick-up only. Space is limited, so buses and coaches must be parked off-site. More details here

 

 

ACTIVITIES & EVENTS
 

BUGGIES GO BUSH

 

Every Wednesday is Buggies Go Bush Day! Parents and caregivers with buggies or prams can enter the sanctuary for just $10 (Members and children under 5 enter for free!). 

Ts and Cs: Offer available for one parent/caregiver per buggy/pram. Child carry packs are considered as a buggy. General admission fees apply for additional adults and children aged 5-17. 

We also have two buggies available to borrow free of charge, just ask the friendly staff at the front desk.

 

 Accessibility

Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne works hard to ensure everyone has an opportunity to experience the unique native flora and fauna of New Zealand. Although it is an outdoor environment, a large area of the sanctuary is accessible for wheelchair users, deaf or blind visitors, and visitors with other impairments. We welcome service dogs and invite you to contact us to discuss the necessary requirements for biosecurity. Please contact before arriving so we can advise.
