Our takahē are usually stars of the show at the wetlands but yesterday all eyes were on five stars from upcoming move The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (premiere tomorrow).
The cast were here to film an interview with American media so it was a flying visit but Hugo Weaving was especially interested in our conservation work as he is involved with similar projects himself.
On the way in, keen-eyed Elijah Wood spotted a sign explaining they were crossing the territory of “Jackson and Fran” – a little spotted kiwi pair named after the film’s Director around the time of the first Lord of the Rings movie.
We’re all keen to see the film and the stunning natural backdrop Aotearoa provides. We hope one day these crews will have to fight to drown out the calls of the native birdlife we love so much.
