"As I hike further into this wilderness 10 minutes from the city, the only sounds are birdsong and the wind stirring the tops of pine trees lining the
ridge. It’s a wonderful place to decompress – the perfect break from the perfect city break." - Nikki Marshall, The Guardian

Welcome to our living classroom!

At ZEALANDIA, students and teachers can walk through a regenerating forest thriving with rare and endangered wildlife. Our sanctuary is a living classroom that provides outstanding education opportunities for all ages. The interactive exhibition will take students on a journey of restoration. Our ongoing conservation effort has created the perfect environment for young minds to thrive alongside the rare and endangered wildlife that call our sanctuary home.

Education Programmes

Join our specially-trained education staff on an exciting expedition around this unique eco-sanctuary, stay the night and experience native wildlife by dusk, or even have rangers visit your school!

Our resources are framed within an inquiry-based education model and are designed to stimulate student interest and equip students with knowledge that will support their visit to ZEALANDIA.

Outreach Programmes

When your school can't come to ZEALANDIA, our rangers will come to you! Learn more about tracking and trapping pests in your neighbourhood, and how to make your school a safe zone for native species.

School Holiday Programme

The ZEALANDIA school holiday programme is tailored for primary and intermediate school children aged between 5 and 12 years with a love for nature, getting outside and mucking in to make a difference. We would love your child to join us!

ZEALANDIA works hard to ensure everyone has an opportunity to experience the unique native flora and fauna of New Zealand. Although it is an outdoor environment, a large area of the sanctuary is accessible for wheelchair users, deaf or blind visitors, and visitors with other impairments.
