ZEALANDIA School Holiday Programme

Immerse your child in nature, culture and science with our popular programme!

The ZEALANDIA school holiday programme is tailored for primary and intermediate school children aged between 5 and 12 years with a love for nature, getting outside and mucking in to make a difference. We would love your child to join us!

Each day has a different theme providing an exciting, fun-filled nature adventure. 

Drop off: 8am - 9am
Pick up: ​3:30pm - 4:30pm (or 12:30pm for half-day)
Monday 9th October - Friday 13th October 2017

THEMES

Taking Flight - Monday 9th October

Get a bird’s eye view of the sanctuary as we learn how drones are helping with conservation tasks all across Aotearoa. Find out about some of our best and worst fliers and make your own manu inspired kite to try out and take home.

Go Wild in the Bush - Tuesday 10th October

Learn how our animals have adapted to life in Te ngahere (bush) and what building, climbing and foraging skills you might need if you were to go wild and have the bush as your home. 

Create some survival tools to try out and take home. 

Warning – you may get muddy!

Bird Banding 101 – Wednesday 11th October

Ever wondered why some of our animals wear such colourful beads or bands wherever they go?  Learn more about why we use coloured bands on our ngā manu (birds) to help with their conservation and what 3D printing has to do with it?

Head out into the sanctuary to do your own banded bird count and craft your own banded bird to take home.

A Kaleidoscope of Nature - Thursday 12th October

Meet some of our best dressed ngā mokomoko (lizards) and learn how you can help to protect them in your own back yard.

Discover some of the other inhabitants that make up our ever-changing forest floor.  Collect your own specimens as we take our daily walk in the sanctuary and study their colours, shapes and patterns up close. 

Craft some forest floor taonga (treasure) to take home and keep. 

Wonderful Water – Friday 13th October

Wai (water) is amazing! Learn more about this precious resource with some fun science experiments.

Get your feet wet and find out who is lurking in our sanctuary streams.  Learn more about what our scientists are doing to look after our fresh water in the sanctuary and how we can help keep our streams, lakes and rivers pollution free.
